Dave Freeman

Dave Freeman was born in London in 1922. After serving in the Royal Navy, he spent five years in the Metropolitan Police before becoming a journalist. He began writing for television in 1953 devising series and working with many of the top comedians of the time such as Tommy Cooper, Benny Hill, Arthur Askey, Frankie Howerd and Sid James. His credits include over 200 television situation comedies and plays, award-winning series of television commercials, and film scripts for Rocket to the Moon, Bless This House, Carry on Behind and Carry on Columbus.

Dave’s first stage play, A Bedfull of Foreigners, opened in 1973 and ran in the West End for 18 months starring Terry Scott and June Whitfield. His second West End play, Key for Two, was co-written with John Chapman and premiered at the Vaudeville Theatre. In 1982 it was nominated for a S.W.E.T. (now the Olivier Awards) for Best Comedy of the Year. His third play, Kindly Keep it Covered, premiered in 1988. All his plays have continued to run successfully around the world. Dave died in 2005.
